Most would say that it is fairly obvious that Jayson Tatum is the Celtics best player, but too many nights it doesn’t seem that way.

With a talent as great as Tatum it should be abundantly clear that he is their best player, but some games it seems as though Kemba Walker or Jaylen Brown is their best player.

I wrote an article on why I believe the Celtics should either get rid of Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. Read that article here:

This season the Celtics have underperformed, as they are currently under .500 with a 21–23 record and sit as the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference.

The fact that the Celtics don’t have a definitive number one seems to be the primary reason as to why they aren’t winning as they should.

They are lucky to be playing in the Eastern Conference because if they were to play in the West they would be buried in a heartbeat.

I think the Celtics are trying to run a free flowing offense. While doing so, they are trying to make Tatum the focal point of the offense as long as it happens naturally. Instead they should be making a conservative effort to try to feed him the ball.

This season Tatum is averaging about 20 shots per game, and Brown is averaging about 19 shots per game.

Brown is averaging 24.7 points per game, while Tatum is averaging 24.8 points per game.

Ask anyone who knows basketball and they’ll tell you that Tatum is better, some will tell you that he is a lot better. Looking at just these numbers though, who could tell?

To win championships, you NEED a definitive number one.

There needs to be a discussion within the Celtics organization to speak about their roles.

Their roles need to be well defined. If a discussion is held that lets the team know that they will go as far as Tatum will take them, I think everything else will fall into place.
